My Portraits of the Pacific Crest Trail 2014.12.07 Pacific Crest Trail I was super excited to find this excellent photo gallery of PCT hiker photos over at Outside Online today (thanks Pacific Crest Trail Association for the link). How cool is it that an unwitting trail angel became a documenter of some of the 2014 personalities? I met a few of those hikers (Justin, Blanco, Far Out, Sarah!, Namaste) , and maybe met a few others before they got their trail names, and got teary-eyed looking at their beautiful portraits. But it made me remember that I took some 2014 PCT portraits myself, and still haven’t shared them beyond the ephemeral Instagram base. So here you go: Hiker Apache. Now I’m partial to this guy because I hiked a few miles with him in 2013, and he’s just […] Read more

Lonnie’s Oil Pump Puller 2014.08.27 Latergram, My VW Westfalia Vanagon oil pump is out! Fourth tool’s a charm. Now it’s super customized with a sturdier tee and less depth. Here’s to never giving up (and credit cards). Thanks again, Lonnie! Read more
Washout 2014.08.26 Hiking, Latergram The infamous Eliot Creek crossing involves letting oneself down a loose gravel wall by rope, then once boulders are hopped over in the glacial creek, pulling oneself up by rope on the other side. Huge, enormous washouts. Definitely the most challenging crossing I’ve ever done. No sweat! Read more

They killed a snake 2014.07.22 Latergram Yes, it’s headless. No, I wasn’t happy about it. The boys just feel the need to kill every rattlesnake they see, and there’s no talking them out of it. Felt bad for the waste. Skinned it and gave the skin to Solstice. Read more

2014.06.06 Latergram Hello from the Eastern Sierra, where it is too beautiful to describe. We also got to drive through Red Rocks this morning, but couldn’t stop or Chief Pete would overheat. Overall a perfect drive, and we’re excited to be in Lone Pine in Mt Whitney’s shadow. (In hindsight, this was to be the very first time I saw the Owens Valley from the ground. I saw it from above the year before. Honest to God, it was love at first sight.) Read more
